Right at the entrance of Valtellina and Valchiavenna is the "Pian di Spagna", a spacious level that unites the Lake of Mezzola with the Lake of Como giving life to a damp zone of large naturalistic interest and linking the provinces of Sondrio, Lecco and Como. The vegetable landscape is dominated by cane fields with straws of marsh; besides this, it has been signalled that there are mixed forests of latifoglie and spacious agricultural areas used for pasture or plots of terrain where to grow corn. Ideal place for nestling by a lot of birds, the “Pian di Spagna” offers a perfect frame for the lovers of the nature who want to spend a day in total tranquillity, benefiting also of the vicinity of important tourist locations. In addition, on the west shore of the Lake of Mezzola, it is possible to note one of the most significant examples of roman architecture, the Temple of San Fedelino, built between 900 and 1000 on the place where by tradition it is wanted the martyrdom and the burial of S.
